Pirates of the Carribean brought back 'huzzah', you know.

Expecting to do homework after International Talk Like a Pirate Day Party = ahahaha, or should I say arrharrharrharr. It's been three weeks and I'm already a week behind, but Cameroon baked cakes and there were drinking games with rum, and we were all dressed like pirates and wore heavy makeup, and sang pirate songs and danced pirate dances and played pirate games for pirate prizes. And there was a treasure hunt. And sword fights by moonlight with cutlasses! And lame pirate jokes! (What call ye a parrot that's not eaten recently? Polynomeal, har har har.)

...I can already see how this semester is going to go.

The real purpose of this post is to point out the nearly three gigabytes of manga accessible in this post, and also to reiterate for people not on my friends list:

There are a lot of cool things you can do with Gmail these days. You can publilsh emails as a blog; you can turn your 2.5 gigs (and counting!) of email space into a virtual drive on Linux or Windows; and you can make the files stored on that drive accessible to everyone on the net. Not bad!

PS.
I finished Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell last Thursday, but livejournal ate my post on it. Damnation!

PPS.
Raise your hand if you watched FFV7: Advent Children even though you've never played the game or participated in fandom! You recognize Cloud and the guy with his own choir, you've heard about the in-game character death but honestly what's so special about her (the other one's hotter), THERE ARE TOO MANY CHARACTERS IN THIS MOVIE hey that was sort of neat *replays the fight scenes*. I can't be the only one.

PPPS.
New layout, retro sneaker colors.

(raises hand)

I too haven't watched Advent Children yet, and don't really plan to unless someone mooches it for me. Despite the pretty. The pretty beckons, but I am resilient like steel this time. (poses)

Ahaha, except I *did* watch it. I enjoy participating in massive cultural phenomena! I figured there must be a few more people like me, who kind of go along with these things even though they have no idea what's going on.

You sure? It's very pretty. XDD I have to say, I haven't seen it with the legitimate subtitles (just the parody ones) and I don't really plan to. Not until after I plan the game. *poses* Time scale: sometime before I die/turn seventy.

I was really surprised that so many people talked about it, actually. I didn't know I knew that many RPGers. Makes sense, though.

(palm/forehead combo) My brain inserted a "haven't" where it shouldn't have, it should be punished.

I think that reguardless of whether one is a RPG gamer or not, almost everyone has played or at least heard of Final Fantasy. I remember being at a friend's house while she was playing FFVII, and the first thing I noticed was how big Tifa's breasts were. I was shocked, unable to decide whether that was the angle of the polygons or if her breasts really were that big. XD

Your time scale is similiar to mine, I've had FFVIII for about five years and haven't finished it yet. (dies)

::laughs hysterically over "Polynomeal" joke:: (Okay, I know it's bad, but I like bad jokes. XD)

ME! I had no idea what was going on until maybe in the last few minutes, but hey, who cares, it's pretty.

"What be the MPAA rating for piracy?"

"...Arr?"

"Aye! And do ye know why it be rated arr?"

"No..."

"Too much booty! It ought to have been rated X!"

"...X marks the spot?"

"Aye!"

And in the last few minutes you realized the entire thing was an elaborate set-up to 1) bring back Sephiroth and 2) give everyone a happy ending free of those pesky chemical disfigurements left over from the game. Everyone wins!

I got ab out 15 minutes into Advent Children and then couldn't stand not knowing what the hell was going on or who the characters were, and haunted Wikipedia, reading character descriptions, until I'd formed a solid idea of the plot of the game, then went back and finished watching the movie.

And now I'm going through and slowly watching the parody version in 10 and 15-minute chunks. It's better.

I gotta say, without really knowing what FF7 was about, I'd always thought that if I played it, I'd like Sephiroth because - evil, silverhaired, longhaired psychopath! Sweet! But I found myself liking Vincent Valentine a whole lot more. Except for his stupid shoes.

Who. XD. The guy with the cloak? I think I need to watch the real version to know what he's like, but whosit, Auron connections are obvious. I think it'd annoy me if he was too much a 'type'.

I got a huge kick out of Reno and Rude. The only problem was that I've never seen Pulp Fiction, either ;_; Wikipedia is a good idea. Way faster than playing through the game!

Yeah, the guy trying to convince Cloud that he should knit. XD Anyway, "Auron" means nothing to me, so no connections there!

The Wikipedia artricle on him is here, and ... oh so that's what that whole "Dirge of Cerberus" thing was about ... anyway, he's got classic-horror-movie vibes and transforms into various things resembling classic horror movie monsters.

Dirge of Cereburus: this is a horror film reference? I don't see it in that article *squints*.

...I should stop now, or I'll never be able to play through the game. XD Because the point of RPGs is to advance the story unless you're a colmpletist like my brother.

Auron's a character from FFX (think: stern older man in a red cloak). You may have seen him compared to Shino's father.

It's a link right at the top - it's a sequel (of a sort) game coming out called "FF7: Dirge of Cerberus". Cerberus being, apparently, the name of VV's gun.

I don't play many games so I don't give a damn about apoilers, because I don't have the attention span of patience to sit through an entire game. :D

[raises hand]

Haven't played the game. Ever.

But now I know everything I never wanted to know about some alien, parasitic lifeform Jenova and how some guy thought she was his mom and decided to CHOP HER HEAD OFF for reasons NO ONE knows and become a freaking GOD by taking her head and standing in a CRATER.

I say even Light's plan had more of a chance.

Oh, so that's what happened? I got that there was a Mother (Kaa-san!) thing going on. Have to say, English opening and ending credits aside can you think of a plot less likely to appeal to an English audience. Grown men forming attachments to things and calling them Mother is Not Cool.

...XD but Light's plan is working! Would have worked already if it weren't for those pesky kids!

[info]fiendery

September 20 2005, 23:20:04 UTC 6 years ago

Yeah, lots of "Kaa-san! D:" action. He of the Long, White Hair went insane in the game or something because all he was ever told about his parents was that his mother's name is Jenova (it's not; he was just a subject in an experiment involving an injection of this Jenova's cells; also, at the time, he was a fetus of the unborn sort), and he freaks out a bit when he finds the actual Jenova. I mean, she's pretty much dead, I suppose, but he reads about Jenova and gets this delusion that if he can "complete" what she was allegedly trying to do, he can become a god.

He was a real nut job, obviously.

Definitely true. A friend of mine (who was in it for the action and mad graphics) almost backed out upon hearing that end of the plot. Haha. I would expect no less of him.

Is it really? I haven't been keeping up with Death Note. The community scared me off a while ago, and I can't find scanlations, and I can't understand a single word the one person who gives synopses is saying (that one Mello fan, I think). But kudos to Light! 8D Yay, autocracy!

While I have played FF7, I can tell you that the movie doesn't make appreciably more sense having done so. FF7 has this plot that- well- it's like this incestuous family tree sort of plotline. The ending is beyond ambiguous, and the movie resolves NOTHING.

But good god, the pretty. And the nostalgia, man. Good stuff.

Gah, those three GB of manga are so tempting but woe! I have no time! Hopefully I'll be able to snag some this weekend. (A million thanks for putting them up!)

And Advent Children is my baby. I've never played the game (I don't have the patience or time to sit through seventy hours of game play), but had the next best thing... *pets fandom* So I went into it knowing most of the characters (and with a deepseated fangirl crush on Sephiroth. XD) but not expecting much of a plot. *laugh* I'm all about the shallow. Pretty men with swords? I can dig it.
